STOCKWOOD GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Stockwood Green Primary School is situated on the edge of Stockwood in South Bristol. The school was opened in 1970 and is on the edge of open countryside, serving an area of mainly private housing.

Outside there are tarmac playing areas, a large playing field, and an adventure playground. We share our site with Abbeywood Tots Day Nursery who have a long term lease covering part of our original building.

The staff comprises the Headteacher and 3 full time teachers; 7 learning support assistants; our secretary; 3 SMSAs and a resident caretaker. The school is currently working towards Investors in People status.

Above all we are constantly looking for ways to make learning enjoyable and relevant for our children. In doing so, we provide many opportunities for educational visits.

Our school is well resourced. All classes have interactive whiteboards which are used to enhance teaching. In addition, we have an ICT suite whihc classes are able to access each day if teachers wish.

In our small school it is important that everyone is fully committed to achieving high standards through high quality teaching and learning. All classes now use WALT and WILF to focus children's attention on the intended learning in each lesson. Our Code of Good Behaviour is underpinned by a consistent set of rewards and sanctions throughout the school, and we have succesfully embedded the SEAL program into our school, helping children to learn the social and emotional skills which are so important.

We were pleased to renew our Basic Skills Primary Quality Mark in November 2005, and pride ourselves on our Early Years provision as we achieved the Bristol Standard for Early Years  Provision in January 2008.  Most recently, our school has been awarded Healthy Schools Status and we are now working towards achieving the Green Flag for Eco-Schools.

All children in KS2 learn recorders and the guitar with our specialist teacher and take part in regular whole school performances. We have a very active school council with representatives from all classes who contribute to decision making in the school.

Many parents are involved actively with the life of our school. Although small, our PTA works extremely hard with its fundraising activities, holding a number of successful events each year.

Governors too take a keen interest in the life of our school and meet regularly to carry out their duties. The school has close links with local churches, the library and a local senior citizens home. We also work closely with Abbeywood Tots who attend many of our school events.
