Information about Stockwood Green Primary School

STOCKWOOD GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Stockwood Green Primary School is situated on the edge of Stockwood in South Bristol. The school was opened in 1970 and is on the edge of open countryside, serving an area of mainly private housing, Outside there are tarmac playing areas, a large playing field, and an adventure playground. We share our site with Abbeywood Tots Day Nursery who have a long term lease covering part of our original building.

There are currently 90 children on roll, organised into 1 straight Reception class and 3 mixed age classes as follows: Class 1 (R) Class 2 (Y1/2), Class 3 (Y3/4) and Class 4 (Y5/6). Many parents select our school because of its friendly atmosphere and know that in a school of this size children will be well known to all the staff. We have a School Council with representatives from all classes who contribute to decision making in school where appropriate.
The staff comprises the Headteacher and 4 full time teachers; a special needs teacher; 7 learning support assistants; our secretary; 3 SMSAs and a resident caretaker. The school is currently working towards Investors in People status.

In our small school it is important that everyone is fully committed to achieving high standards through high quality teaching and learning. All classes now use WALT to focus children's attention on the intended learning in each lesson. Our Code of Good Behaviour is underpinned by a consistent set of rewards and sanctions throughout the school. We were pleased to renew our Basic Skills Primary Quality Mark in November 2005.  We pride ourselves on our Early Years provision and achieved the Bristol Standard for Early Years Provision in January 2007.  Above all we are constantly looking for ways to make learning enjoyable and relevant for our children. In doing so, we provide many opportunities for educational visits including a residential visit in year 6.
Our school is well resourced. We have an ICT Suite which classes are able to access each day if teachers wish and all classes have interactive whiteboards which are used extensively.

We see extra-curricular provision to be an important aspect of school life. Currently we are able to offer football, eco, drama, dance, choir, I.C.T. and homework clubs. Children learn recorders and the guitar with our specialist teacher and take part in regular whole school performances. We have a school council with representatives from all classes who contribute to decision making in the school; they are currently working with their classes to help us achieve our Eco schools Award.

Many parents are involved actively with the life of our school. Our PTA although small, works extremely hard with its fundraising activities, holding a number of successful events each year. Governors too take a keen interest in the life of our school and meet regularly to carry out their duties. The school has close links with local churches, the library and a local senior citizens home. We also work closely with Abbeywood Tots who attend many of our school events.
