COMING SOON - STOCKWOOD GREEN RADIO PODCASTS!

School Council

Stockwood Green has 8 School Councillors - two representatives from each class. We meet once a fortnight to talk about ways to help improve our school, organise special events and discuss the ideas or concerns of our other classmates.

During September and October, School Council arranged for our school to take part in Operation Christmas Child. Our challenge was to fill shoe-boxes with suitable presents for children living in orphanages or hospitals in Romania.

We presented an assembly all about it, arranged for a special visitor to come and talk to us about the project and made this display helping children and parents know what they could include in their shoe-box.

In the end we collected 28 shoe-boxes, a truly fantastic effort from our small school!

These shoe-boxes will make such an amazing difference to the children receiving them, so well done everyone!

Next we began to organise activities and events for Christmas, including our very succesful talent show!

We had to ask people if they wanted to take part, audition them and help them to improve their act.

In January, the School Council were given the tricky job of deciding upon a charity to give our Christmas Play donations to. We decided on Oxfam Unwrapped, a charity who sends really useful and practical gifts to people in poorer parts of the world.

With the money donated from Stockwood Green's generous families, we were able to buy a goat, an emergency shelter, safe drinking water for 12 people, 100 school dinners and 10 bags of seeds.

An ongoing challenge is to help the school achieve it's Eco-School Green Flag Status by running the 'Turn and Flick' campaign. This campaign will make sure that everyone is doing their bit to conserve energy by turning off the lights when they are not in use.

We are running a competition between the adults and children to see who is the most eco-friendly and so far, it doesn't look too good for the adults...

During February, School Councillors began to think about what 'Red Nose Day' is really all about. Now we are busy planning activities and events for the whole school to take part in, which will help us raise money for this great charity. Keep an eye out for the photos in our gallery section!
